RBWF Executive Committee Meeting

dowerI don’t think I was the only bleery-e’ed traveller to arrive at Dower House this morning. A good time had been had the previous night, however decorum had been conspicuous and the membership were in fighting fettle for the rigours of the day.

The literature committee, on which I have a seat, had an excellent morning’s discussion, where we tabled motions in favour of returning to a system of reviews, certainly on the most important Burns volumes of the day, but also on more far-ranging literature, in particular, modern Scots poetry. We also discussed how we may aspire to act as a conduit for channeling the exertions of diverse academic institutions toward the provision of some reliable online resources, notably Burns’ letters, a definitive version of which is, until now, unavailable.

The afternoon session showed tremendous energy and enthusiasm. In particular, it’s wonderful to see our new chief executive, Sam Judge’s appetite for improvement in the practices of the federation. The future looks bright.
