Winter Wonderment

SNOW!Disappointment doesn’t come close to defining my emotions after some spectacularly heavy snow squashed my hopes of new-found fame in the Capital. I was thrilled to be booked to MC the city’s St Andrew’s Day celebrations on the 30th November, also performing some poetry at the site in St Andrew’s Square for the four-day lead-up period. Unfortunately I managed only one day, the 27th, what was to prove to be the first day of a front, which saw the Lothians transformed into Narnia.

A planned tour for Lloyds Banking Group on 1st December was also kiboshed, as the canvas in the lea of the Melville Monument collapsed under the weight of snow.

I was delighted therefore to be asked instead to enliven the crowd at the annual Santa Run in Princes St Gardens. This annual event raises money for the “When you wish upon a star” charity, a very worthwhile cause, allowing children with terminal conditions to experience one amazing day. Every year they run a trip to Lapland, so that the children can meet with Santa.

The run was a tremendous success and I personally had a wonderful time raising the spirits of all those who braved the elements. I’ll certainly be entering this in my diary for upcoming years.
