New Chapter

tour1whistle3To the folk singer, arguably Burns’ Achilles Heel is the longer song. This is not a position always subscribed to by the literary critic. The latest chapter of my thesis will aim to explain this antisyzygy. Are these songs exceptions to Burns’ self-proclaimed methodology of conning over the melody throughout the production of the song? I’ll additionally discuss how Fred Freeman has seen it necessary to play with the architecture of these works to make them listenable as songs. Is this something Burns would have approved of? I also intend to discover how Serge Hovey has dealt with them, something unknown to me heretofore.
